6-COLOUR INK SYSTEM.
Our advanced six-colour ink system produces many times more
colour combinations than is possible with four ink colours. In
addition to the four regular density CMYK inks, the printers use
ultra-low density Cyan and Magenta photo inks that are 1/6 the
density of regular inks.
The low-density inks have two advantages. First they significantly
broaden the tonal range that the printer can produce in a single
pixel. Second, they increase "apparent resolution" by up to 50%.
With 1/6 the density of conventional inks, the drops have an
"apparent ink size" of 0.67 pl of regular ink. This delivers a
resolution equivalent to 1800 dpi.
2400 DPI, 49 TONAL LEVELS PER PIXEL.
The bi-directional printing process overlays the drops on the
horizontal axis to produce 2400 x 1200 dpi. Combined with the
precision placement, 6-ink colours and low-density inks, the S900
& S9000 are capable of up to 49 tonal levels in a single pixel.
To put this into non-technical terms, they can print without
discernible grain in areas of low colour density. The subtle tonal
quality in dark shades rivals photographic prints, and definition is
comparable to offset printing.
FULL - BLEED PHOTO PRINTING.
Now you don't have to trim prints to remove the white borders.
Both models can "overprint" by up to 5mm outside the page area
giving you full bleed printing. The amount of overprinting is
user-selectable via driver software, adjusting how much image you
"lose" at the edges. With the S900 you can proof something like an
A4-sized full-bleed design, or produce A4 borderless photo prints.
