Before you start reading this manual and operating your camcorder, check the model number by looking at the bottom of your camcorder. The DCR- TRV530E is the model used for illustration purposes.

    Step 3 Inserting a cassette We recommend using Hi8 cassettes. (1) Prepare the power supply (p. 15). (2) Slide OPEN/EJECT in the direction of the arrow and open the lid. The cassette compartment automatically lifts up and opens. (3) Insert the cassette in a straight line deeply into the cassette compartment with the window facing out.

For example, you can satisfactorily record the environment of nocturnal animals for observation when you use this function.     Playing back a tape Remaining battery time indicator during playback The indicator indicates the approximate continuous playback time. The indicator may not be correct, depending on the conditions in which you are recording. When you close the LCD panel and open it again, it takes about 1 minute for the correct remaining battery time to be displayed.

    Focusing manually You can gain better results by manually adjusting the focus in the following cases: •The autofocus mode is not effective when shooting: – subjects through glass coated with water droplets. – horizontal stripes. – subjects with little contrast with backgrounds such as walls and sky.
