CAUTION
Before adding with the addition of disinfectant always
check, and if necessary correct, the pH value.
Add 5÷10 mg/l of chlorine in quick dissolving granules to
the water in the spa.
CAUTION
Do not use the skimmer basket to introduce chemical
additives. If solid additives are used, you are advised to
dissolve them beforehand in a bucket or use a purposely-
designed basket available from specialist distributors.
The Manufacturers specifi c instructions and recommen-
dations must be carefully followed for use of the above
substances.
Set the fi ltering cycle longer (see "Operation of the fi ltering
control system") and let it operate until the level of chlorine resi-
due in the water drops to normal levels (1÷3 mg/l); this normally
occurs after a few hours (it is advisable, however, to leave the
fi ltering system in operation for at least half a day).
CAUTION
Do not use the spa until the level of free chlorine has
dropped to normal levels (1÷3 mg/l).
Do not use the thermal cover during super-chlorination
as the chlorine can attack the metal parts (chrome-pla-
ted accessories etc.).
Other values of chlorine or bromine (> 10 mg/l) may not
be detected by the test kit reactants, while there is ac-
tually an excessive amount present.
If disinfectants have been added in amounts over 10
mg/l, the operator must forbid, as his responsibility, the
use of the SPA.
The dosage and method of use require qualifi ed personnel.

Normal chlorination (or regular maintenance)

To ensure quality and avoid possible deterioration, the water
must be treated, or chemically conditioned.
The water level must be kept constant to guarantee correct system
operation.
CAUTION
Before proceeding with the addition of disinfectant al-
ways check, and if necessary correct, the pH value.
Add the slow dissolving stabilised chlorine to the water of
the spa.
When chlorine is added to the water, part of it is wasted on con-
tact with impurities, a part (combined chlorine) blends with ni-
trogenated substances forming chloramines and another part
remains available for disinfection: this is the so-called free chlo-
rine, which should be present in the amount of 1÷3 mg/l.
NOTE: if the chloroamine level (combined chlorine with nitrogena-
ted organic substances) becomes high, it can cause the so-called
"chlorine smell", and also irritating eff ects for the eyes and skin. In
this case, it is advisable to carry out super-chlorination (shock tre-
atment).
Check that the pH, the total alkalinity TA and the water
hardness are correct; if not, act according to the recommenda-
tions in the related paragraphs.
Set the water fi ltering cycles according to the intended use
of the spa.
Do not let the free chlorine level drop to below the recom-
mended value (1÷3 mg/l).
Note: In some models, an ozone generator is installed: the ozone is
introduced from the bottom, where it is mixed with the water, and
aids in disinfecting and purifying the water.
Use of the ozone generator normally reduces the need for chemi-
cal water treatment additives and therefore also reduces costs.
Chlorine-based water treatment is preferable when the spa is
used intensively. As an alternative you can use bromine or active
oxygen.

Other treatments

for water maintenance

Anti-algae treatment

To be carried out at the beginning of each season (and periodi-
cally) using a specifi c product; it is advisable to contact a Jacuzzi
service centre or a specialized dealer for the relative amounts
and methods of use.

Flocculation treatment

This treatment eliminates any microscopic particles which might
make the water cloudy. It is a treatment which however is not
advisable in spas, since the substances used may deposit on the
cartridge fi lter and compromise its operation.

Formation of foam

Anti-foam products are available to reduce the formation of
foam in the water, normally caused by the presence of soap,
suntan oils and other greasy substances. The interaction of the-
se substances with hot water, in particular with a high pH level
(high alkaline content), causes the formation of foam.
Oily fi lm or cloudy water
These situations are often due to insuffi cient water fi ltering, but
are also caused by sunscreen oils, lotions and cosmetics.
It is possible to add fl occulants to cause the particles to coa-
gulate into globules which are suffi ciently large to be handled
by the fi ltering system. These globules may however complete-
ly clog the fi lters. The addition of fl occulants makes the water
clearer but the fi lter must be cleaned following the instructions
given in the "Cartridge fi lter maintenance" chapter.
