Connecting to a network (Dynamic IP)
1. Power down your unit
2. Connect FireWriter to your network with a standard
10Base-T Ehternet cable, just as you would network a com-
puter.
3. Power up, DHCP is the default mode. To determine if a IP
number has automatically been assigned, type Command I.
A non-zero number should be displayed on the screen.
Contact your network adminstrator if this doesn't occur to
verify that your network has a working DHCP server.
4. An optional FTP password allows you to control file read
and write security. It is suggested that you enter one once
you have vefified communication.
5. FireWriter is now networked, and it should be visible as a
FTP device.
Connecting to a PC with a direct serial port
1. Power down your unit
2. Connect your FireWriter to your PC's serial port with a
standard null RS-232 serial cable.
3. Power up.
Transferring files to or from your FireWriter
Via Ethernet
1. From a PC or Mac, communicate with FireWriter using
standard FTP software. The following example is Fetch 3.0:

Via Serial Port
1. From a PC or Mac, communicate with FireWriter using
standard Serial software. The following protocol is required:
XMODEM 19200 BAUD 8-N-1
System Directories and files
Upon making a computer connection. The following folders
and files can be written to or read from:
bkgnd/ VID01.BGD thru VID05.BGD
This folder contains the five JPEG background files. The H x
V size should not exceed1024 x 768. Backgrounds are cen-
tered.
bugs/ VID01.BUG thru VID05.BUG
This folder contains the five JPEG bug files. The H x V size
should not exceed 1024 x 768. Bugs are usually a smaller
portion of the video screen such as 320 x 240.
config/ VID01.CFG - VID02.CFG
This folder contains system configuration files. Do not write
over these. VID01.CFG is the system schedule, while
VID02.CFG is the system color table.
fonts/VID01.FNT - VID10.FNT
This folder contains font files. The font format is unique to
FireWriter. Some fonts are embedded into the operating
software, but some are stored here. The numbers do not
match the actual font numbers (please see Chapter 24).
scripts/VID01.SCR - VID30.SCR
This folder contains projects and their associated pages.
