    Remote Vehicle Start With this feature the engine can be started from outside of the vehicle. Starting the Vehicle 1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle. 2. Press 3. Immediately after completing Step 2, press and hold until the turn signal lamps flash. When the vehicle starts, the parking lamps will turn on and remain on as long as the engine is running.

    5-14 Instruments and Controls Here are some situations owners may experience with the fuel gauge. None of these indicate a problem with the fuel gauge. At the gas station, the fuel pump shuts off before the gauge reads full. It takes a little more or less fuel to fill up than the fuel gauge indicated.

    Safety Belt Reminders Driver Safety Belt Reminder Light When the engine is started, a chime sounds for several seconds to remind a driver to fasten the safety belt, unless the driver safety belt is already buckled. The safety belt light flashes for several seconds, then comes on solid for several more.

    5-16 Instruments and Controls Airbag Readiness Light The system checks the airbag's electrical system for possible malfunctions. If the light stays on it indicates there is an electrical problem. The system check includes the airbag sensor, the pretensioners, the airbag modules, the wiring, and the crash sensing and diagnostic module.
  • Page 155 United States Canada and Mexico When the vehicle is started, the passenger airbag status indicator will light ON and OFF, or the symbols for on and off, for several seconds as a system check. If you are using remote start, if equipped, to start the vehicle from a distance, you may not see the system check.

    5-18 Instruments and Controls Charging System Light This light comes on briefly when the ignition key is turned to START, but the engine is not running, as a check to show it is working. If it does not, have the vehicle serviced by your dealer.
  • Page 157 If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp comes on and stays on while the engine is running, this indicates that there is an OBD II problem and service is required. Malfunctions often are indicated by the system before any problem is apparent. Being aware of the light can prevent more serious damage to the vehicle.

It also displays warning messages if a system problem is detected. The DIC also allows some features to be customized.
