CWDM ports tests

3.3.4.1 Introduction
Before starting the WDM commissioning, be sure that the optical fibers are properly clened.
All the single spans attenuation connecting the various link nodes, including the acceptable margin,
are given in the Design Project document (released by a Project Manager).
The procedure is divided in two parts:
- local test
- link test
The node local test must be firstly performed. The link tests can be carried out after local tests on all
nodes.

For the local test optimization the two operators have to move along the link nodes route, as in the
following example:
1. they must be able to perform the local tests on all nodes;
2. they must be able to perform the single span attenuation respecting the design project
document;
3. they must be able to perform the link tests.
Looking at the example link shown in Figure 7, the commissioning steps examples are described in
the following:
STEP 1: The operator A performs the local tests on the Terminal 1.
The operator B performs the local tests on OADM 1.
The operators jointly perform the span I attenuation test.
STEP 2: The operators perform the same operations carried out in STEP 1, on Terminal 2,
OADM 2 and SPAN II.
At the end of link tests it is necessary to come back on all nodes for all the link test presettings
removal, if performed, and restore all the node settings according to initial configuration.
