Troubleshooting

Read and understand safety and operating
instructions in this manual before doing any work on
pump!
Only qualified personnel should electrical-
ly test pump motor.
SYMPTOM
Pump fails
to operate.
Pump fails to
empty sump.
Pump will not
shut off.
POSSIBLE CAUSE(S)
1. Power to pump has been
interrupted.
2. Liquid fluid level is not high
enough to activate switch
or controller.
3. Plugged vent hole in discharge
pipe.
4. Pump inlet, impeller, check valve
or discharge pipe are blocked.
5. Thermal overload may have
tripped.
1. All valves in discharge pipe are
not fully open.
2. Discharge pipe and check valve
are clogged.
3. Pump inlet or impeller have
blockage.
4. Pump not sized correctly.
1. Check switch or automatic float
control for improper function.
Risk of electrical shock. Disconnect power
to outlet before handling pump or motor. Sudden Starts. If
power is on to pump when thermal overload resets, pump
may start without warning. If you are working on pump,
you may get an electrical shock or impeller may catch fin-
gers or tools.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Check to be sure you have power to your home.
Check to be sure that power cord is securely
plugged into outlet or securely wired into
controller or switch box.
2. Check that fluid level is high enough to activate
switch or controller.
3. Check to be sure that the 3/16" vent hole in
discharge pipe is not plugged and unplug if
needed.
4. Check for blockage in pump inlet, impeller,
check valve or discharge pipe and clean if
needed.
5. Test start pump; if it starts and then stops
immediately, disconnect from power source for
30 minutes to allow motor to cool, then
reconnect to power source. Check for cause of
overheating.
1. Check to be sure all valves in discharge pipe are
fully open.
2. Clean out discharge pipe and check valve.
3. Check for blockage in pump inlet or impeller
and clean if needed.
4. A higher capacity pump may be needed.
