Dell Inspiron Systems Setup Guide
Windows 98 Second Edition is now set up and the Windows desktop appears on
the screen.
See " Adding a Printer" in Chapter 3 for instructions on how to connect a printer. See
"Information Resources" in Chapter 1 for descriptions of reference tools that are
included with your Dell computer.

Microsoft Windows NT

The initial setup of the Windows NT Workstation 4.0 operating system takes approxi-
mately 15 minutes to complete. The setup process is customized according to which
computer components you have.
NOTICE: Do not dock the computer to a port replicator before turning it on
for the first time. Doing so may cause configuration problems during the
operating system setup.
1.
Turn on your computer.
2.
At the Dell Software License Agreement window, follow the directions on the
display to continue.

At the Technical Support Information window, follow the directions on the
display to continue.
The Technical Support Information window displays the service tag sequence
and Express Service Code for your computer. Click Next.
NOTE: Dell's Express Service Code may not be available in all countries.
The Select Operating System menu appears. Then the Windows NT Setup
window appears.

At the Microsoft Software License Agreement window, click I accept this
agreement and then click Next to continue.

At the Windows NT Setup window, click Next>.
6.
At the Name and Organization window, type your name and organization and
click Next>.
Your name and organization can each be up to 50 characters long.

In the Registration window, type your product ID number and click Next>.
NOTE: The Product ID number is the bar code number found on the Microsoft
sticker, which is located either on the front cover of the Microsoft Windows NT
Workstation—Start Here booklet or on the bottom of your computer.
8.
When prompted, type the computer name and click Next>.
The computer name is the name used to identify your computer on a network
and, therefore, must be unique to the network. It can be up to 15 characters long.
