General
When ultrasonic energy is introduced into a
cavitation (the foundation of ultrasonic cleaning) occurs. Ultrasonic
energy causes alternating patterns of low- and high-pressure phases.
During the low-pressure phases, minute bubbles (or vacuum cavities)
are formed. During the alternate high-pressure phases, the bubbles
implode violently - this is called cavitation.
Cavitations provide scrubbing action leading to rapid cleaning
speeds and consistency when compared with simple soaking or
immersion with agitation. Additionally, the bubbles are small enough
to penetrate even microscopic crevices, cleaning them thoroughly
and consistently. As a result, ultrasonic cleaning is an effective and
efficient method of cleaning.
This cavitation or optimum ultrasonic cleaning power is ensured by
constant power output generators operating about 132kHz and
complemented with complex resonance frequencies to ensure lock-
box cleaning efficiency. The generators are mounted with individual
slide out modules for ease of service. Also, patented ceramically-
enhanced transducer modules are bonded to the wash tank providing
efficient energy transmission for instrument cleaning.
The Ultrasonic Cleaning System is a freestanding instrument washer,
supplied in a compact stainless-steel cabinet with automatic opening lids
and load elevators for easy and safe instrument loading. The System
contains all needed components to effectively clean (utilizing ultrasonic
cavitation passing through a detergent-balanced wash solution as
described in the previous paragraphs), thoroughly rinse surgical
instruments prior to disinfection and sterilization.
