Introduction

Your portable hard drive comes pre-formatted for immediate use with
Apple Macintosh computers running Mac OS. (It is formatted as HFS+.) If
you plan to use your portable hard drive only with computers running Mac
OS, you can leave it formatted as it comes from the factory, and follow the
simple steps in Using the Portable Hard Drive with Mac OS to connect and
use your hard drive.
If you plan to use your portable hard drive with computers running
Windows, or with both Mac OS and Windows computers, you should
reformat your portable hard drive so it can be recognized by Windows
before saving data to it. (Mac OS can recognize hard drives formatted for
Windows.) If this is your situation, proceed fi rst to Using the Portable Hard
Drive with Windows to prepare your hard drive. Then you can follow the
guidelines in Using the Portable Hard Drive with Mac OS if you also wish to
use your portable hard drive with a computer running Mac OS.
Note: Capacity dependent on model. Your operating system may
report capacity as fewer gigabytes. 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Your product's hard drive is a complex electronic storage system and
should be handled with care, as you might treat a sensitive portable
computer or other state-of-the-art consumer electronics product. Do not
subject it to shock, high temperatures, or strong magnetic fi elds.
