This section describes the adjustment procedure of the
Sony LCD monitor LMD-181MD.

3-1. Preparation

. Required tools and measuring equipment
Luminance meter : Minolta CA-110 or equivalent
If Minolta CA-110 or equivalent is
not available, make adjustment by
comparing the LCD monitor with the
reference CRT monitor that has
already been calibrated correctly.
Signal generator : VG-854 or equivalent
. Preparation of luminance meter
Place the light receptor block of the luminance meter
about 30 cm away from the monitor screen as shown.

. Warming Up
Before starting adjustment, allow a warm-up of mini-
mum 30 minutes.
. How to Enter Service Mode (factory mode)
1. Turn on the main power.
2. Press the front panel switches in the following order.
[ENTER] → [ENTER] → [LEFT] →
[ENTER] → [UP]

The desired screen display language can be selected from
the seven languages.
When the Service Mode (factory mode) is going to be
selected, select English (ENG) as the screen display
language. (Refer to Operation Manual for the procedure of
selecting the screen display language.)

3-2. White Balance Adjustment

Establish the following setup and perform the white
balance adjustment in the following setup unless specified
otherwise.
BRIGHT : "50" CONTRAST : "80"
(1) HIGH Adjustment (9300K)
1. Connect a signal of 1024 x 768 with 60 Hz at 0 IRE to
the input connector of a computer.
2. Select "HIGH" from the color temperature adjustment
menu of the service mode.

3. Adjust "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" respec-
tively to the positions where LCD element is going to
start emitting light.
Take note of the adjustment value.
4. Connect a signal of 1024 x 768 with 60 Hz at 100 IRE
WINDOW (40% x 50%) to the input connector of a
computer.
5. Adjust "GAIN R", "GAIN G" and "GAIN B" respec-
tively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the
following specifications.
Specifications : x : 0.283 ± 0.002
y : 0.298 ± 0.002
6. Connect a video signal of 20 IRE WINDOW (40% x
50%) to the input connector of a computer.
7. Adjust "BIAS R", "BIAS G" and "BIAS B" respec-
tively until chromaticity of the LCD display meets the
following specifications while the values that are
adjusted in step 3 must not be exceeded.
Specifications : x : 0.283 ± 0.002
y : 0.298 ± 0.002
8. Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the required specifica-
tions are met all at the same time.
9. Select "SAVE TO MEMORY" from the color temper-
ature adjustment menu of the service mode to save the
adjustment data.
