Starting the vehicle using the SmartKey
You can also start the vehicle with the SmartKey
in the ignition lock. The ignition lock is in the
rear stowage space in the center console.

To remove the SmartKey
1
To switch on the power supply

To switch on the ignition
3
To start the engine
Shift the transmission to position j or i.
#
Depress the brake pedal.
#
Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock and
#
turn to key position 3.
If the vehicle does not start:
#
Switch off consumers that are not
R
required.
Remove the SmartKey from the ignition
R
lock.
Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock
R
again after a short waiting period.
Turn the SmartKey to key position 2.
R
The indicator lamps in the instrument
cluster light up.
Turn the SmartKey to key position 3.
R

You can also switch on the power supply or
the ignition with the SmartKey. Additionally,
turn the SmartKey to key position 1 or 2 .

Breaking-in notes
To preserve the engine during the first
1,000 miles (1,500 km):
drive at varying road speeds and engine

speeds.
do not drive faster than 85 mph (140 km/h).

allow the engine to reach a maximum engine
R
speed of 4,500 rpm (4,500 rpm) only briefly.
drive the vehicle in drive program A.

change gear before the tachometer needle is
R
Ô of the way to the red area of the tachome‐
ter.
do not shift down a gear manually in order to
R
brake.
avoid overstraining the vehicle, e.g. driving at
R
full throttle.
do not depress the accelerator pedal past
R
the pressure point (kickdown).
only increase the engine speed gradually and

accelerate the vehicle to full speed after
1,000 miles (1,500 km).
