3. The satellites will now set the time and date of your camera.
iii. Press the Menu button again
1. This returns to the GPS signal status display screen.
2. Check the positioning status before shooting.
c. Before taking a picture, check the GPS status.
i. When camera is on, GPS data is recorded every 5 seconds. However, GPS
data will not be updated when the zoom control and any dials are operated,
or when any button is pressed.
ii. Check the positioning status before shooting to make sure that the GPS is
working.
1. Put the dial back into the GPS setting. GPS information will
appear.
2. To check the signal strength look at the number and color of
satellites below the words Signal Strength in the upper left of the
screen.
3. To check your location see the longitude and latitude coordinates
given below Position on the lower left of the screen.
4. To check the time since the last GPS recording see the time
elapsed in the top right of the screen.
5. To check the position of satellites and signal status see the circular
grid on the right of the screen. The strength of signal is indicated
by color. Gray is the weakest, then yellow, and blue is the
strongest.
iii. When in the following areas you may have trouble receiving GPS data:
1. Inside buildings, especially the basement.
a. 3 White satellites: the camera is receiving signals from 4 or
more satellites to determine position. Positional
information will be recorded onto the picture.
b. 2 White satellites: the camera is receiving signals from 3
satellites to determine position. Positional information will
be recorded onto the picture.
c. 1 Red satellite: Positioning has not been possible for a
period of time more than the valid storage period.
Positional information will not be recorded.
