Removing an SMP Expansion Module
When you install or remove SMP Expansion Modules, the server configuration
information changes. Therefore, you must use the Configuration/Setup Utility program
to change and save the new configuration information.
Attention: The installation and removal of the SMP Expansion Module is a two-handed
operation. Always use two hands when installing or removing an SMP Expansion Module.
Description: You can damage capacitors on the centerplane if you are not careful when you
install or remove an SMP Expansion Module (sometimes referred to as a CEC).
Solution: To help avoid problems, use the following procedure when removing an SMP
Expansion Module.

Turn off the server and peripheral devices; then, disconnect the power cords and all
external cables from the SMP Expansion Module.
Remove the shipping/retention bracket screws from the right side of the server.
Open the cover.
Grasp the shipping/retention bracket or brackets by the removal handles and lift them up
and out of the server.
Note: If there is one SMP Expansion Module installed, you will need to remove the SMP
baffle from the server; then, remove the shipping/retention bracket from the lower
