To let the computer go into standby mode automatically
3 Save your work, close all applications, and close your dial-up Internet
connection, if applicable.

You can leave the Windows operating system running
4 Click My Computer on your desktop.
5 Click Control Panel.
6 Click Power Options.
7 On the Power Schemes tab, select an option in the Power schemes
drop-down list.
8 Choose settings for the power scheme you have selected.

To save the settings under a name that is not offered in the Power schemes
drop-down list, choose your settings and then click Save As.
9 Type in a name.
10 Click OK.
11 Click Apply to finalize your power settings.
The computer will go into standby mode according to your settings.
To resume from standby mode
To bring your computer back from the standby mode:

Press the space bar on your keyboard.

Momentarily press the power button on your computer.

Press Alt+Tab.
