Troubleshooting

Toro designed and built your lawn mower for trouble-free operation. Check the following components and items carefully,
and refer to Maintenance on page 17 for more information. If a problem continues, contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
Problem
Engine does not start
Engine starts hard or loses power
Engine runs rough
Spark Arrestor Kit
Note: If a spark arrestor is required by local, state, or
federal regulations, you may purchase one from an
Authorized Service Dealer. Clean the screen after every
75 operating hours.
Possible Causes
1. The fuel tank is empty or the
fuel system contains stale fuel.
2. The throttle lever is not in the
Fast position.
3. The primer has not been
pressed.
4. The wire is not connected to
the spark plug.
5. The spark plug is pitted, fouled,
or the gap is incorrect.
1. The fuel tank contains stale
fuel.
2. The air filter element is dirty
and is restricting the air flow.
3. The underside of the lawn
mower deck contains clippings
and debris.
4. The spark plug is pitted, fouled,
or the gap is incorrect.
1. The wire is not connected to
the spark plug.

or the gap is incorrect.
3. The throttle lever is not in the
Fast position.
4. The air filter element is dirty

Corrective Action
1. Drain and/or fill the fuel tank
with a fresh gasoline-and-oil
mixture. If the problem persists,
contact an Authorized Service
Dealer.
2. Move the throttle lever to the
Fast position.
3. Press the primer three times.
4. Connect the wire to the spark
plug.
5. Check the spark plug and
adjust the gap if necessary.
Replace the spark plug if it is
pitted, fouled, or cracked.
1. Drain and fill the fuel tank with
a fresh gasoline-and-oil
mixture.
2. Replace the air filter element.
3. Clean the underside of the lawn
mower deck.
4. Check the spark plug and
adjust the gap if necessary.
Replace the spark plug if it is

plug.
2. Check the spark plug and
adjust the gap if necessary.
Replace the spark plug if it is
