Job Aid
Cabling Guide—MCC1 and SCC1 Media
Gateway
This cabling guide provides graphical representations on various cable connections for the Avaya MCC1
and SCC1 Media Gateways used in an S8700 Multi-Connect configuration. Different ribbon cables are
used and CAT5 Ethernet cables connect differently, depending on whether the carrier is a newer or older
version.
For newer carriers, A carrier position can be identified as J58890AF-2, L13 or higher list number and the
B carrier can be identified as J58890BB-4, L14 or higher (see page 2).
For older carriers, A carrier position can be identified as J58890AF-2, with a list number lower than L13
and the B carrier can be identified as J58890BB-4, with a list number lower than L14 (see page 3). For
some connectivity information, see page 4.
Although the graphic shows an IPSI in a second port network in a MCC1 Media Gateway with multiple
port networks, each port network does not require an IPSI circuit pack. One IPSI can control the whole
media gateway. However, when there are remote port networks, you may need to put IPSIs in more than
one port network in a media gateway to reach the minimum number of IPSIs required in an S8700 Multi-
Connect configuration.
