Installing the SSP
Replacing an SSP in the Chassis
Ensure that all power supplies are turned OFF (O) before installing the SSP in the chassis. The SSP,
RP, and interface processors are all keyed for installation only in the correct slot. (Refer to "SSP
Description.") Install the SSP in the SP slot (see Figure 2 and Figure 3), as follows:

Handle the SSP by the handle and carrier edges only to prevent ESD damage.
Hold the SSP handle with one hand and place your other hand under the carrier to support
the bottom as you guide the SSP into the slot (see Figure 6). Avoid touching the board or
connectors.
You must install the SSP in the SSP or SP slot, which is adjacent to the RP slot.
Place the back of the SSP in the slot and align the notch on the ends of the carrier with the
groove in the chassis slot. (See Figure 4.)
While keeping the SSP at a 90-degree orientation to the backplane, carefully slide the
carrier into the slot until the SSP faceplate makes contact with the ejector levers, then stop.
(See Figure 4.)
Using the thumb and forefinger of each hand to pinch each ejector, simultaneously push the
levers inward (toward the handle) until they are at a full 90-degree orientation to the
faceplate. (See Figure 4.)
Always use the ejector levers when installing or removing processor modules. A module
Use an appropriate screwdriver to tighten the captive installation screws on the ends of the
SSP. (See Figure 4.) (These screws must be tightened for maximum EMI protection.)
If you disconnected the console terminal to remove the SP or SSP, connect the console
terminal to the Console port.
Ensure that the console terminal is turned on.
Proceed to the next section to restart the system and check the installation.
