DF8000 in DMS8000 systems
In DMS8000 architectures, DF8000 is handled at subsystem level and interacts di-
rectly with field devices or 3
ternal signals and transmit corresponding messages upward using a high-level pro-
tocol. Downward, the control messages received from the management stations or
by network units (e.g. NK8000) are translated by DF8000 into commands to the
output lines.
The DF8000 system communicates with DMS8000 through NK8000 Ethernet Port
units , a family of network devices providing communication and interaction
functions (see Fig. 4).
RS232 and RS485 lines
NK8000 units (NK822x) normally use a 3-wire RS232 serial protocol to communi-
cate. In one case (COM1), a 2-wire RS485 line is available on the NK822x.
The DF8000 system communicates through a 2-wire RS485 bus line (CMX-DL pro-
tocol). An Interface Converter, opportunely placed between the RS232 port and the
DF8000 unit can ensure communications.
The RS232 line between GW and the converter must be max. 15 m. The RS485
bus can be up to 1200 m long and can connect multiple DF8000 units.
The interface provides for the electrical conversion RS232 to RS485 with no active
role in the CMX-DL protocol. The interface converter is not included in the DF8000
supply. The recommended model is the I-7520 by ACP DAS
(http://www.icpdas.com/products/Remote_IO/i-7000/i-7520.htm).
Note: the previous IC-2 converter is no longer available.
Each RS485 line can be used for up to 16 single units, or 8 double ones, or any
combination that does not cause addressing collision: a single unit takes one ad-
dress from 0 to 15 and a double unit takes two consecutive addresses, see Fig. 4.
Also, old CF9003 units as well as CMX boards can be connected on a DF8000
line.
