Secondary air system (03_11)

In order to reduce polluting emissions, the vehicle is furnished with a catalytic con-
verter in the muffler.
To facilitate the catalytic process, a further quantity of previously filtered air is brought
in through the exhaust duct on the head by the secondary air system (SAS).
This system allows more oxygen to be added to the unburned gases before reaching
the catalytic converter, thus improving the catalytic converter reaction.
The system has a control valve that disables operation during deceleration in order to

avoid abnormal noises.
To ensure the best functioning of the SAS, take your vehicle to an Authorised Piaggio
Service Centre for maintenance operations, at the intervals indicated in the scheduled
maintenance table.
This system requires a filter «A».
The filter sponge should be cleaned with water and mild soap, then it should be dried
with a cloth and slight blows of compressed air.

Cooling fluid level (03_12, 03_13, 03_14)

Engine cooling is carried out by a forced-circulation coolant system. The cooling circuit
holds approx. 1.8 litres of coolant consisting of a mixture of 50% demineralised water
and 50% glycol ethylene-based antifreeze solution with corrosion inhibitors.
The liquid supplied with the scooter is already mixed and ready for use.
For proper functioning of the engine, ensure that the temperature of the coolant re-
mains in the middle zone of gauge "L" on the instrument panel. If the needle of the
gauge enters the red zone, switch off the engine, allow to cool down and check the
coolant level; if the result is normal, turn to an Authorised Piaggio Service Centre.

The fluid inspection should be carried out every 6,000 km when the engine is cold,
following the methods indicated below.
