Selecting PROGRESSIVE scan

The progressive scan capability provides the highest resolution pictures with less
flicker and line structure.
Note:
When you connect the unit to an another TV or a monitor using the Audio/
Video output jacks, do not select Progressive scan On. If you do it the video
output does not feed the correct signals and you can not see any picture (only
seen black screen), but only the sounds will be heard.

Preparation:
• Press DVD to select the DVD mode.
• Load a disc.

Press and hold PROGRESSIVE for one second
in the stop mode to select the Progressive mode
On.
The interlaced startup screen will
change to the progressively scanned
one, then the "
On) display will appear for approx. 2
seconds on the screen.

Press PLAY to start playback.
• The unit recognizes the picture

source (film or video) of the current
disc according to the disc information.
To select PROGRESSIVE scan Off (Interlace)
Press and hold PROGRESSIVE for one second in the
stop mode.
The progressively scanned startup screen will change to
the interlaced one, then the "
Interlace) display will appear for 2 seconds on the screen.
Notes:
• Some discs may not be played back with the progressive
scanning mode correctly because of the disc characteristics
or recording condition.
• You cannot make the progressive scanning mode active in
following cases.
– The unit is in the TV/VCR mode.
– The disc is played back in the DVD mode.

There are two types of source content in pictures recorded in
DVD video discs: film content (pictures recorded from films
at 24 frames per second) and video content (video signals
recorded at 30 frames per second).
When the unit plays back a film source material, uninterlaced
progressive output signals are created using the original
information. When a video content is played back, the unit
interleaves lines between the interlaced lines on each to
create the interpolated picture and outputs as the progressive
signal.
