In the USA Input rates are derated 4% for each 1000
ft . above sea level, beyond 2000 ft . in accordance with
National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 –
latest edition, and/or the Natural Gas and Propane
Installation Code, CAN/CSA B149.1.
For elevations above 10,000 feet, please contact
Weil-McLain Technical Support for details.
In Canada, Input rates are derated 10% for
altitudes of 2000 ft . to 4500 ft . above sea level.
Please use appropriate Fan Speed Sett ings for High
Altitude provided in this manual.
In Canada for elevation beyond 4500 feet. Please
consult Provincial Authorities having jurisdiction
and/or local codes.
To start the boiler
1. Turn OFF the boiler ON/OFF switch.
2. Read and follow the Operating Instructions, Figure  83,
page 91 .
3. Th e control will initialize and follow its sequence of operation
(see page 68 ).
If boiler does not start correctly
1. Check for loose connections, blown fuse or service switch off ?
2. Is external limit control (if used) open? Is boiler water tem-
perature above 210 °F?
3. Is thermostat set below room temperature?
4. Is gas turned on at meter or boiler?
5. Is incoming gas pressure greater or less than required on
page 47 ?
6. Are parameters set correctly as per this manual?
7. Is the warm weather shutdown activated?
8. If none of the above corrects the problem, refer to Trouble-
shooting, beginning on page 99 .

Chec k fl ame & combustion with
instruments
1. Initiate a call for heat on one of the heat demand inputs.
2. Access the control contractor menus by pressing the up and down
arrow keys for seven seconds.
3. Use the control display to navigate DIAGNOSTICS to Manual Test
Mode (see for 2 more years
4. Remove the fl ue temperature
sensor and install a ¼" BSP
hose barb and hose. Insert a
combustion test probe into
the hose, using a calibrated
combustion test instrument.
5. Test for CO
(or O
) and for

CO. Th e CO
values are listed
2
in Figure 80, page 89 . If results
are NOT acceptable, follow
the instructions under "Gas Valve Adjustment Procedure" to set the
CO
values. See WARNING below.
2
You must re-install the fl ue temperature sensor to prevent fl ue
gas spillage into the boiler room. Failure to comply could result
in severe personal injury, death or substantial property damage.
Gas valve adjustment proc edure
DO NOT att empt to adjust the gas valve sett ings unless you are
a qualifi ed technician, and with the use of calibrated combus-
tion test instruments. Adjust the valve sett ings only as needed
to meet the combustion values given in Figure 80, page 89 .
SVF boilers are shipped ready to fi re natural gas ONLY. You
must install the propane conversion kit if the boiler will be
connected to propane. See page 12 for instructions. Failure
to comply could result in severe personal injury, death or
substantial property damage.
1. Th is procedure is only necessary when combustion tests indicate
the need, as explained under "Check fl ame & combustion
with instruments, page 88."
2. Boiler behavior that might indicate a need to check combustion
values at high fi re (as per page 88 ) to verify boiler is in adjustment
include: diffi culty igniting, poor fl ame stability at low fi re, combus-
tion noise or high carbon monoxide values.
3. Combustion readings must be taken at both high fi re and low fi re.
Adjust valve at high fi re
Use the control display to navigate to Manual Test Mode. (See page 98
for proper instructions on forcing rates in Manual Test Mode). Aft er the
boiler has had time to stabilize and high-fi re RPM value (see Figure 79 )
is reached, take a CO
reading.
2
a. See Figure 81, page 89 to adjust if necessary.
b. If the CO
is HIGH, turn the thrott le screw towards the minus
2
(-) sign with a small fl at screwdriver to lower the input. Allow the
boiler to stabilize and take another reading. Continue until the
desired CO
value is achieved.
2
Make only small (1/8 -turn) thrott le screw adjustments.
Adjustment can be sensitive, especially on propane. Navi-
gate to DIAGNOSTICS — Manual Test Mode
(see page 98 for proper instructions on testing).
c. If the CO
is LOW, turn the thrott le screw towards the plus (+)
2
sign with a small fl at screwdriver to increase the input. Allow the
boiler to stabilize and take another reading. Continue until the
desired CO
value is achieved.
