EXTERIOR MAINTENANCE

Aluminum is attacked by many acids and m ost
a lk a lie s. Consequently, considerable ca re should
be taken in the selectio n of chem ical clea n ers. U se
of even inhibited-type alkaline clean ers is in ad vis
able due to difficulty in rem oving a ll tr a c e s of
clea n er. T herefore, it is recom m ended that painted
and plated external fin ish e s be cleaned only with
soap and w ater.
Body painted su rfa ces and chrom e plating
should be protected by a coating of wax applied at
regular in terv a ls. P erio d s between applications
should be su fficiently sh ort to a ssu r e continuous
protection of the finish; 30 days after delivery and
at le a st once a year thereafter. Any good body wax
can be used for both painted and chrom e su rfa ces.
Wax should be applied im m ediately after veh icle
has been cleaned and be rubbed down with a lam b's
wool polishing wheel or by hand.
The entire v eh icle should be regularly in
spected for corrosion and paint damage. P articu lar
attention should be given to chrom e and exposed
aluminum su rfa ces during the winter months. Since
aluminum is suscep tib le to attack by alkaline sub
sta n c e s, road d e-icin g m aterials such as s a lts and
chlorid es a ccelera te corrosion of ejqposed alum
