Operation
Extending the starter rope rotates the starter
reel, winding a recoil spring while simulta-
neously causing a ratchet to engage and turn
the flywheel rotor.

A damaged starting mechanism can
usually be traced to a "hard starting"
engine. When you encounter a starter with
a frayed rope, broken rewind spring, or
other mechanical damage, always verify
both engine condition and operator starting
procedures!
