Disassembling
1.
Remove cylinder
head
cover
and cylinder head as described
in
3-2 B.
Cylinder
con
be
removed from
cy
linder
stud
bolts.
2.
To
remove
piston,
toke
off
one piston pin clip and push the piston pin out. The
p iston
con be removed from the connecting
rod.
CAUTION
Be careful not to drop the piston pin clip
into the
crankcase when
removing
it.
3.
Use a
ring
remover or
carefully
spread each ring with the
thumbs of
both hands to toke
it out of
the
groove
and
off of
the
piston.
Be
careful
not
to
tw ist the piston
ring or
scratch the
piston.
C.
Assembling
1.
It is
advisable to use
a
guide as shown
in
Fig. 3-19
when fitting
piston
rings to
the
piston.
CAUTION
a.
Do not fit piston rings upside-down.
An
improperly
fitted ring sometimes
scrapes
oil up
into
the
combustion
chamber instead of down into the crankcase.
b.
When fitting a new piston ring,
first check
the clearance in the piston ring groove as
shown
in Fig. 3-21
.

Fit piston by
inserting
piston pin
through
connectin
g
rod
small end
and
fasten
the
piston
pin clip securely.
CAUTION
a.
The arrow on the
top
of the piston must point
forward.

b.
Piston pin
slip fits
mto piston and connecting
rod
and can be pushed 'nto position with
your
fingertips.
c.
Always use a new pistonpin clip every time a clip has been removed from the piston pin.

Fit

ylinder.
CAUTION
a.
The piston ring end gaps should
l:e
posit!aned about 120° apart
b.
When
fitting
the cylinder over the piston, toke core not
to
break a piston ring or scratch
the
cylinder wall.

Fit cylinder head and
cy
linder
head
cover
as described in
3-2
C.
