Network Communications Guidelines
• There are two types of LAN cable that can be used for Internet connections: a straight cable
and a cross cable. Always use the cable specified for the network device being used
(broadband router, DSL modem, cable modem, or other line termination equipment).
• For broadband routers, we recommend that you use a DHCP-compatible model.
• If the network cable used with the LAN adapter is shared with other network terminals
(such as a PC), it may not be possible to fully achieve the data transfer rate required by the
game system when other network terminals are being used at the same time as the Wii
console.
• The LAN Adapter is a network terminal that supports 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX standards.
Note that normal communication is not possible if the network device to which the LAN
Adapter is connected is fixed to 1000BASE. Be sure to enable the automatic negotiation
feature of the network device, if it has one. If there is no automatic negotiation feature, set
the network device to communicate using 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. For details on
re-configuring your network device, refer to the owner's manual included with it.
• A broadband router is not required if you are using a modem with a built-in router. If you
are using a bridge-type modem (a modem without a built-in router), connect it to the
broadband router as shown in the figure on the left.
• PPPoE connections cannot be made from the Wii console when connected to a bridge-type
modem.
