NOTE: The battery may be OK and only discharged. Before replacing the battery, use a battery
tester to test it.
ENGINE START
. Set the TIMER to the OFF position.
2. With the charger unplugged, connect to the battery as described for in-vehicle boost charging
(see above).
3. Set the RATE/VOLTAGE CONTROL to the ENGINE START setting.
4. Plug in the charger.
5. Set the TIMER to the HOLD setting.
6. Attempt to start the engine using the ignition key.
NOTE: Most chargers can only supply cranking-assist current for a few seconds and will
shut down if time is exceeded. (See the front label of your charger for ON/OFF times)
7. If the engine fails to start within 3 to 5 seconds, stop cranking. Wait 3 to 5 minutes and repeat
the BOOST CHARGE procedure. Let the charger cool for another 5 minutes and try the
ENGINE START procedure again. If the engine fails to start after another attempt, disconnect
charger. Before replacing the battery, use a battery tester to test it.
