CAUTION: TO REDUCE THE RISk OF INjURY, CHARGE ONLY RECHARGEABLE LEAD ACID TYPE BATTERIES WHICH MAY INCLUDE MAINTENANCE FREE, LOW MAINTE- NANCE, OR DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES. OTHER TYPES OF BATTERIES MAY BURST CAUSING PERSONAL INjURY AND DAMAGE. The charger is not intended to supply power to a low-voltage electrical system other than applica- tions using rechargeable, lead-acid type batteries. - Page 8 This battery charger is for use on a nominal 20-volt circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in Figure A. A temporary adapter, which looks like the adapter illustrated in Figures B and C, may be used to connect this plug to a two-pole receptacle as shown in Figure B, if a properly grounded outlet is not available.

CHARGER LOCATION Locate charger as far away from battery as charger cables permit. Never place charger directly above battery being charged; gases from battery will corrode and damage charger. Never allow electrolyte to drip on charger when taking gravity readings or filling a battery. Operate charger only in well ventilated area, free of dangerous vapors. -
Page 10: Battery Outside Vehicle Or Equipment-Not Connected To Engine
For negative-grounded vehicle, first connect POSITIVE (red) clamp from charger to POSITIVE (POS., P, +) ungrounded post of battery. Then connect NEGATIVE (BLACk) clamp to vehicle chassis or engine block away from battery. Do not connect clamp to carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body parts. - Page 11 PERCENT CHARGED Scale Indicates battery’s approximate state of charge. Follow the battery manufacturer’s recommenda- tion for removing surface charge before reading voltage. VOLTAGE Scale The voltmeter will indicate voltage (8–6 volts), whether the charger is on or off. ENGINE START The ENGINE START setting provides a high current suitable for crank-assist/starting a vehicle that will not start due to a discharged battery. Use the step-by-step instructions of the Quick Refer- ence Guide or use the following procedure. With the rate selector switch set to a fast charge (not boost) setting (30–60 AMP), charge battery for 5 minutes. -

0.4 The temperature of the battery and the equipment the battery is used with has a dramatic effect on battery efficiency and system power requirements. 2.2 SERIES CHARGING Batteries of the same type and voltage rating may be connected in series for charging. The char- ger’s VOLTAGE setting equals the sum of the individual battery voltages and the current through each equals the amount of charge showing on the ammeter. Example: Charging two 2-volt batteries in series requires a 24-volt charger (VOLTAGE) setting. -

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS The charger is designed and built with high quality materials requiring only a minimum amount of care: 4. Clamps should be cleaned each time the charger is used to prevent corrosion from battery fluid. 4.2 Cords should be coiled when the charger is not being used to prevent damage. 4.3 Other servicing should be performed by qualified service personnel. -
