Maintaining the Vacuum System

Periodic maintenance

As listed in
system must be performed periodically. These include:
• Checking the foreline pump fluid (every week)
• Replacing the foreline pump oil (every 6 months)
• Replace RIS Maintenance Probe parts (yearly)
Failure to perform these tasks as scheduled can result in decreased
instrument performance. It can also result in damage to your instrument.

Other procedures

Problems with any of the vacuum system seals in the analyzer usually require
the services of Agilent service personnel. See
Troubleshooting"
Workstation software for symptoms that indicate this type of maintenance is
required.

Vacuum System Components

The parts of the vacuum system are:
• Foreline (rough) pump
• 3 High-vacuum turbo pumps
• Analyzer chambers
• Collision cell cover
• Side plate (analyzer door)
• Removable Ion Source door and gate valve
• RIS chamber purge and vent valves
• Vacuum seals
• Calibration valves -EI, CI, Mass Reference
• Vacuum control electronics
• Vacuum gauges and gauge control electronics
