Coolant Level

f Please observe the chapter "NOTES ON
MAINTENANCE" on page 176.
The coolant provides year-round protection from
corrosion and freezing down to –35 °C (–31 °F).
f Use only antifreeze authorised by Porsche.
Check coolant level
The expansion tank for the coolant is located on
the left-hand side of the engine compartment.
f Check the coolant level regularly.
When the engine is cold and the car is level, the
coolant level must lie between the minimum and
maximum marks.
Topping up coolant
Warning!
Risk of scalding from hot coolant.
f Do not open the cap of the expansion tank
while the engine is hot.
1. Switch engine off and let it cool.
Please observe the chapter "COOLING
SYSTEM" on page 70.
2. Cover the expansion tank cap with a cloth.
Open cap carefully and allow overpressure to
escape. Then unscrew cap completely.
3. Only add a mixture of antifreeze and water in
equal parts, and do not exceed the Max. mark.
Antifreeze in coolant:
50 % provides anti-freeze protection
down to –35 °C (–31 °F)
60 % provides anti-freeze protection
down to –50 °C (–58 °F)
4. Screw cap on firmly.
If pure water is added in an emergency, the mixing
ratio will have to be corrected.
Marked loss of coolant indicates leakage in the
cooling system.
f The cause must be eliminated without delay.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop. We
recommend a Porsche partner for this work as
they have trained workshop personnel and the
necessary parts and tools.
Radiator fans
The radiators and radiator fans are in the front of
the vehicle.
Warning!
Risk of injury. The radiator fans in the front
end of the car may be operating or
unexpectedly start operating when the
engine is switched on.
f Carry out work in these areas only with the
engine switched off.
