Antennas

The EC400 has two built-in antennas and two external antenna connectors.
Note:
The Diversity antenna must be raised during use for optimal performance.
The following table describes the antennas for the EC400 and EC400g.

Global Positioning System

The EC400g Mobile Broadband ExpressCard provides Global Positioning System (GPS) functionality.
GPS is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites orbiting the Earth.
GPS works anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day.
To access the GPS features of the EC400g, select View
other software, for example, supplied by your mobile operator, please consult the documentation for
that application.
Diversity Antenna

Description
Built-in
Used for GSM/UMTS communications. (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS,
HSPA)
Built-in
Dual GPS/UMTS Diversity antenna. This antenna must be in the up
position during operation.
External
Alternate GSM/UMTS antenna. When connected, the built-in main
antenna is used as a Diversity antenna. The main performance boost
is in HSPA.
External
DIV (EC400) - External HSPA Diversity antenna. Works in conjunction
with the other external (GSM) Diversity antenna. When connected,
the internal Diversity/GPS antenna is disabled.
GPS (EC400g) - External GPS and HSPA Diversity antenna. When
connected, the built-in Diversity/GPS antenna is disabled.
