Page 3: Cisco 7200 Series Overview
Port adapters can be placed in any available port adapter slot, in any desired combination. The front of the Cisco 7200 series routers provides access to an Input/Output (I/O) controller and up to four or six network interface port adapters. The I/O controller has a local console port for connecting a data terminal (or data terminal equipment [DTE]) and an auxiliary port for connecting a modem (or other data communications equipment [DCE]) or other devices for configuring and... - Page 4 1 and continuing through port adapter slot 4 for the Cisco 7204, and slot 6 for the Cisco 7206. Port adapter slot 0 is the Fast Ethernet port on the I/O controller. Figure 3 shows the port adapter slot numbering for the Cisco 7206.
- Page 5 DC-input power supply; a second 280W AC-input or DC-input power supply is available for the router. Figure 4 shows the rear of a Cisco 7200 series router that is configured with a single 280W AC-input power supply. (A power supply filler plate is installed over the second power supply bay.) Three internal fans draw cooling air into the chassis interior and across internal components to maintain an acceptable operating temperature (refer to Figure 4).

Cisco 7204 and Cisco 7206 routers. PA-4T Synchronous Serial Port Adapter The Cisco Systems 4T port adapter (Part Number 73-1185) is used in Cisco 7200 series routers and is supplied by Cisco Systems Europe. The 4T port adapter provides the hardware necessary to connect Cisco 7200 series routers to digital leased line circuits (point to point) and to Packet Switched Public Data Networks (PSPDN). - Page 7 Always disconnect the host product chassis from any analogue telephone circuits or ISDN (where applicable) before removing any covers. If you have any doubt as to how to safely install the 4T port adapter correctly in a Cisco 7200 series router, please seek advice from a qualified telecommunications engineer.
- Page 8 Port Adapters Installation Requirements This section describes special installation requirements for the 4T port adapter. Where applicable, the 4T port adapter is approved only for installation in a host and with host attachments, which are either type approved for such apparatus or covered by a General Approval. Except at the edge connector, which plugs into the router’s midplane, clearance and creepage distances of X millimeters (mm) and Y mm, as listed in Table 1, must be maintained between the 4T port adapter and other parts of the host, including any other port adapters.

The HSSI port adapters provide up to two high-speed serial interfaces; PA-H provides a single network interface, and PA-2H provides two interfaces. Wide-area network (WAN) operating software for the HSSI port adapters is bundled with the Cisco IOS software image that is running on the Cisco 7200 series router. - Page 10 Always disconnect the host product chassis from any analogue telephone circuits or ISDN (where applicable) before removing any covers.
