c. Tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts to
specification.
Timing chain tensioner bolt
10 Nm (1.0 m·kgf, 7.2 ft·lbf)
d. Turn the hexagon wrench (Part No.: 1WS-
12228-00) clockwise until the timing chain
tensioner rod contacts the timing chain guide.

NOTICE
Do not release the timing chain tensioner rod
before the timing chain tensioner is installed
to the cylinder head.
e. Remove the hexagon wrench.
TIP
Pull out the hexagon wrench without turning it.
f. Install the timing chain tensioner cap bolt and
new gasket, and then tighten the timing chain
tensioner cap bolt to specification.

7 Nm (0.7 m·kgf, 5.1 ft·lbf)

7. Turn:
• Crankshaft
(several turns counterclockwise)
8. Check:
• Marks "a"
Make sure the marks "a" on the generator ro-
tor is aligned with the slots "b" in the genera-
tor rotor cover.
• Mark "c"
Make sure that the punch mark "c" on the bal-
ancer drive gear "1" is positioned between
the projections "d" on the timing chain guide
(lower side) "2".
• Camshaft sprocket match mark "e"
Make sure the match marks "e" on the cam-
shaft sprockets are aligned with the cylinder
head mating surface "f".
Out of alignment → Adjust.

Refer to the installation steps above.
• Timing chain guide
Make sure that the timing chain guide and
timing chain are positioned correctly.

9. Measure:
• Valve clearance
Out of specification → Adjust.
Refer to "ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEAR-
ANCE" on page 3-5.
10.Install:
• Timing mark accessing bolt "1"
• Crankshaft end cover "2"
