Embedded Auto-Sensing Dual-Channel 10/100Mbps Ethernet
The system board in the Express5800/120Ra-1 includes a dual-channel 10/100Mbps network controller
(based on the Intel 82559 Fast Ethernet PCI bus controller) to optimize server performance and provide
immediate network-readiness. The controller contains two receive-and-transmit FIFO buffers that prevent
data overruns or underruns while waiting for access to the PCI bus. It can also auto-detect and auto-switch
for 10 or 100Mbps network speeds and supports Wake-on-LAN.
The two integrated LAN ports in the Express5800/120Ra-1 provide high availability (load balancing,
fault tolerance) and top performance (server bandwidth scalable to 800Mbps) for demanding networking
environments. The Express5800/120Ra-1 also supports an optional Gigabit Ethernet board, to boost the
network to 1,000Mbps.
Integrated Video
The Express5800/120Ra-1 has an integrated ATI Rage XL 64-bit high-performance SVGA subsystem
that supports 4MB of 10ns onboard SGRAM (synchronous graphics memory) and resolutions up to 1280
x 1024, allowing high-quality image display.
Two PCI Expansion Slots
The Express5800/120Ra-1 offers two available 64-bit/33MHz PCI slots. These I/O slots are mounted on a
PCI riser card. Both slots are Plug-and-Play ready, and PCI connectors are parity enabled.
External Device Connectors
The external I/O connectors provide support for a PS/2-compatible mouse and keyboard, VGA monitor,
two 9-pin serial ports, two RJ45 LAN connectors, two USB connections, and a 68-pin Ultra160 SCSI
connector.
1U Rack-Optimized Design
The compact and practical 1U packaging of the Express5800/120Ra-1 is ideal for space-constrained
environments. Up to 42 systems can fit in an industry-standard 19-inch-wide 42U rack frame. In addition,
the chassis offers a cable management arm option and allows toolless access, simplifying upgrades even
more. The Express5800/120Ra-1 is part of a comprehensive portfolio of rackable Express5800 servers,
rack enclosures, and accessories, for optimal flexibility.
Power and Cooling
The Express5800/120Ra-1 comes standard with one 200W power supply with PFC (Power Factor
Correction). This power supply has auto-ranging input 50/60Hz and automatic voltage sensing (100–
240V). Seven fans are standard for efficient cooling of hard disk drives and CPUs.
