Pentium
III Processors
The Express5800/120Ra-1 can support up to two Pentium III processors, with 256KB on-die cache.
These processors are packaged in the FC-PGA (flip-chip pin grid array) form factor, a 370-pin socket
version of the Pentium III.
Enhanced System Architecture
The Express5800/120Ra-1 is built on the ServerWorks ServerSet III LE chipset, offering higher processor
speeds for dual-processor server environments and expandability for future Pentium III processors. This
chipset also allows high throughput and excellent overall system performance through the high-
performance 133MHz front-side bus and full-speed 133MHz memory access.
The I/O subsystem of the Express5800/120Ra-1 is built on a dual-peer PCI bus architecture that provides
concurrency of data transfers between the different high-speed I/O channels and CPU or memory. I/O
traffic is balanced as follows:
first PCI bus (32-bit): dual-port LAN, IDE, graphics, and I/O ports
second PCI bus (64-bit): two Ultra160 SCSI channels and two 64-bit PCI slots
Improved Memory Architecture
The Express5800/120Ra-1 offers four sockets for industry-standard 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, or 1GB
SDRAM PC133 DIMMs. It allows easy expansion to a maximum of 4GB and comes standard with
133MHz ECC SDRAM for data integrity.
High-Performance Disk Drives
The Express5800/120Ra-1 supports the 10Krpm disk drives with Ultra160 SCSI technology, giving data
rates of up to 160MBps for maximum throughput. The server offers two 1" hot-swap disk drive bays (up
2
to 72GB
maximum) and one 5.25" bay, occupied with a combination low-profile floppy drive and a low-
3
profile 24X maximum
Integrated Ultra160 SCSI Controllers
The Express5800/120Ra-1 system board features an integrated dual-channel Ultra160 SCSI controller.
The system board also includes a single channel EIDE controller, providing support for the internally
mounted CD-ROM.
Multiple RAID Options
The Express5800/120Ra-1 server comes with a range of high-performance Ultra160 and Ultra2 RAID
board options. All provide many fault-detection and fault-tolerance features, like advanced RAID 5
operation through hardware XOR, automatic detection and transparent rebuild of failed drives, hot-swap
and hot-spare drive support, and on-line RAID capacity expansion. Additional features include RAID
configuration stored in both disk and nonvolatile RAM, SMART-capable drive support, and SAF-TE
enclosure management. These boards give top levels of performance, reliability, and fault tolerance when
running demanding server applications.
SecuRAID110 offers one Ultra2 SCSI channel with a 32-bit PCI interface, a 33MHz i960RP
RISC processor, and 16MB of cache.
SecuRAID210 offers one Ultra2 SCSI channel with a 32-bit PCI interface, a 66MHz i960RD
RISC processor, and 8 or 16MB of cache with ECC.
SecuRAID320 offers two Ultra160 SCSI channels, each with a 64-bit PCI interface, a 100MHz
i960RN RISC processor, 32 or 64MB of cache with ECC, and hot-plug PCI support.
