OWNERS MANUAL FOR WEISS JASON CD TRANSPORT
Output Connection
Depending on the D/A Converter you connect, you need to set up the JASON. First you need to
know some technical information about your D/A converter, namely the sampling rates it is able to
operate at, the wordlength it is capable to accept at its input and the kind of connectors it has.
Here is a guide for all kinds of D/A variants. The numbers refer to the numbers printed on the
backpanel of the JASON to designate the output connectors.
Connection of the Weiss MEDEA D/A Converter:
If you would like to operate the MEDEA at either 44.1 kHz or 88.2 kHz use the JASON output 2 or 4
to connect the MEDEA. Both balanced (XLR, output 2) or unbalanced (RCA, output 4) are fine for
that purpose. (I, personally, recommend to use the XLR output.) On the remote control set the
sampling rate to 44.1kHz or 88.2kHz and the output wordlength to 24 bit. You may experiment
with the sampling rate, maybe you prefer the sound of one over the other.
If you like to operate the MEDEA at 176.4kHz you have to use ouput 1 of the JASON. Connect the
"left" connector to input number 1 on the MEDEA and the "right" connector to input number 2 on
the MEDEA. Select input number 1 on the MEDEA. On the remote control set the sampling rate to
176.4kHz and the output wordlength to 24 bit. The MEDEA now automatically detects the 176.4kHz
sampling rate / dual wire format and lights both LEDs at input 1 and 2.
You may also connect the MEDEA for 176.4kHz operation and at the same time connect JASON
output 2 or 4 to the MEDEA input 3 or 4. This allows to select 44.1 or 88.2 kHz sampling rates at
the JASON (using MEDEA input 3 or 4) or the 176.4 kHz sampling rate (using MEDEA input 1).
For third party D/A Converters:
D/A operates up to 44.1kHz, not at 88.2 or 176.4:
Use ouput 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7. On the remote control set the sampling rate to 44.1kHz and the output
wordlength to the maximum number of bits your D/A converter is capable to convert. E.g. if it is
designated to be a "20 Bit converter" then set the output wordlength to 20 bits.
