Enabling Security

The TimeHub 5500 has a security feature that requires a user to supply a user
name and password in order to access or modify parameter settings. Each user can
be assigned to one of three different security levels; each level can access system
commands that are assigned to corresponding levels.
When security is enabled, a user is required to log on to the system before entering
TL1 commands. If security is disabled, logging on is not required. Anyone
connecting to the TimeHub can execute any command at any security level.
Factory-set user security levels are described in
to change a user's access level.

To enable security, set switch S1-1 on the Management card to On and a create a
user and password.

Users can edit their password and retrieve information, or access any
command at the User security level.
Users are allowed to change configuration and issue User-level
commands.
Users are allowed to modify the security database or download new
firmware and issue commands at any level.
Commands that can be executed without logging on. If the Security
Enabled switch (S1-1) on the Management card is off, all commands
behave as if their security level were None.
Commands that only allow the user to retrieve information.
Commands that allow the user to change configuration.
Commands that all the user to modify the security database or
download new firmware.
