HP ProLiant Storage Servers are preconfigured with default storage settings and preinstalled with the
Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 operating system (OS). This section provides additional details about
the preconfigured storage for the ML310 G3 Data Protection Storage Server.
Physical configuration
Four HDDs are included with the Data Protection Storage Servers, and they are configured for hardware
RAID 5 fault tolerance using the HP 6–port SATA RAID controller.
The HDDs are hot-pluggable and hot-swappable. The drives can be removed and installed with the power
on, and the HP 6–port SATA RAID controller determines whether a rebuild of a drive is necessary.
NOTE:
With HP Storage Manager, logical disks are labeled 1, 2, and so on. In Microsoft Disk Manager, logical
disks are displayed as 0, 1, and so on. Information about HP Storage Manager can be obtained from

The logical drives reside on all four physical disks as shown in
volume contains an image that is deployed onto the OS partition during system installation. The data
volume, available for use by the DPM software, is also configured as a RAID 5 logical drive across all
four drives. This ensures redundancy in the event of a drive failure.
