Clear the menu (page 41), then press the control button V (0). The $) (self-timer)
indicator appears on the LCD screen, and about 10 seconds after you press the shutter
button, the subject IS recorded. The self-timer lamp flashes and the beep sounds after
you press the shutter button until the shutter 1s released. To cancel the self-timer
recording, press the control button V (0) agam.
The factory setting IS auto (no indicator). In this mode, the flash automatically
strobes when the surroundings 1s dark. To change the flash mode, clear the menu
(page 41), then press the
control
button A ( f ) repeatedly
so that the flash mode
indicator appears on the LCD screen.

Each time you press the control button A ( f ), the mdicator changes as follows.

The flash strobes regardless of the surrounding brightness.

The flash does not strobe.
You can change the brightness of the flash with [ f +] (FLASH LEVEL) m the menu
settings (page 44).
To reduce
the red-eye
phenomenon
Set [RED EYE REDUCTION] to [ONj m the setup settmgs, the flash strobes before
recording to reduce the red-eye phenomenon (page 76). When [ONj IS selected, 0
appears on the LCD screen.

When [ISO] 1s set to [AUTO]
m the menu settmgs, the recommended
shootmg distance usmg
the built-m flash 1s 0.3 m to 3.0 m (I 1 7/S feet to 9 feet). When It IS not set to [AUTO],
the flash
may be Ineffective
even if the flash level IS changed.

Attachmg
a conversion
lens (not supplied) may block the light from the flash or cause the lens
shadow to appear.

You cannot use an external flash (not supplied) and the built-m flash at the same time.

Red-eye reduction
may not produce the desired effects depending on mdivldual
differences,
the
distance to the sub&%%, if the subject does not see the pre-strobe,
or other conditions.

Red-eye reduction
effects are also difficult
to obtam if you set the shutter to a slow speed m the
shutter speed pnonty
mode.

The flash effect IS not obtamed easily when you use forced flash m a bnght location.

While chargmg
the flash, the f flash charge lamp flashes. After the chargmg IS complete,
the
lamp goes out.
