Step 3.
Touch the static-protective package that contains the DIMM to any unpainted metal surface on the
outside of the server. Then, remove the DIMM from the package.
Step 4.
Turn the DIMM so that the alignment slot align correctly with the alignment tab.
Step 5.
Insert the DIMM into the connector by aligning the edges of the DIMM with the slots at the ends of
the DIMM connector.
Step 6.
Firmly press the DIMM straight down into the connector by applying pressure on both ends of the
DIMM simultaneously. The retaining clips snap into the locked position when the DIMM is firmly
seated in the connector.
Note: If there is a gap between the DIMM and the retaining clips, the DIMM has not been correctly
inserted; open the retaining clips, remove the DIMM, and then reinsert it.
If you have other devices to install, do so now. Otherwise, go to "Completing the installation" on page 54.

Installing an adapter

Use this information to install an adapter.
The following notes describe the types of adapters that the server supports and other information that
you must consider when you install an adapter:
• To confirm that the server supports the adapter that you are installing, see http://www.lenovo.com/
serverproven/.
• Locate the documentation that comes with the adapter and follow those instructions in addition to
the instructions in this section.
• The adapter slots are on the PCI riser-card assembly. You must first remove the PCI riser-card assembly
to access the adapter slots.
• The expansion slots on the PCI riser-card assembly accommodate the various form factors of the
non-hot-plug adapters as follows:
