Gathering with straight stitch

A straight stitch cait be
used
to gather sl eves,c ntis, skirts or valant es.
lo obtain neat and e en gathers ou should ses two or three rows of
gathering stitches.
Set sour stitch length to 6.0 mm. I .o'ser needle thread tension to 3.
Mark the first gathering line on the right side of the fabric. Sew
along this line. Leave about 4— 5 in hes (10—13 cm) of thread at the
beginning and end of the seam.
Sew 1 or 2 more rows of stitching, using the edge of the presser loot
as a guide.
Gather the fabric by pulling the bobbin (bottom) threads to the
(lesired fttlhiiess.
I)istribttte the gathers evenl ati(l knot the thread ends together to
secure the gathering.
Gathering with elastic threads

Gathering sith elastic thread is particulai h suitable for visible, elastic
gathering seams such as blouse slee es, waist seams or necklines.
Mark the first gathering row on the flibric. Ses a few stitches until
the needle is in the middle of the preer fliot. Thrn the hand—wheel
towards yourself until the needle is in the 1osest position. Raise the
presser foot and place the elastic thread at otuid the back of the
it
eedle.
Lwer the presset fit and sew a few more stitches to secut e the
elastic thread to the fabric.

Wheit you ate finished attaching the elastic thread, pit11 on the

amount
