3.7.3 Interface for visual aid equipment on Desk Console

The Desk Console provides a serial interface for connection to visual aid equipment for visually
impaired and blind operators, to be tested in practice for proper operation.
As user interface the Pronto can be provided, manufactured by Baum (www.baum.de). The Desk
Console display information is provided to the operator via the Pronto. Call handling is done via
the Desk Console keyboard. The Pronto can provide audio information to the operator via
loudspeaker or mixed with the Desk Console handset signal.
The Pronto has the following key characteristics:
 Braille-elements
 Audio information (English, Italian, Spanish, German, French or Dutch)
 Text-editor, through ActivSync convertible to MS-word documents
 MP-3 Player integrated
 Data transfer from reading machine POET, ScannaR or Ovation.
The implementation requires a serial interconnection cable and optionally an audio-mixer that
combines the Deskcon handset signal with the Pronto audio information.
