Besureno oneother than the operator isstandingnear the lawnmower
while starting engine or operating mower.Neverrunengine indoors or
inenclosed,poorlyventilated areas.Engine exhaustcontainscarbon
monoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas. Keephands,feet, hair andloose
clothing away from any moving parts on engine andlawn mower.
ToStart Engine

Push the primerthreetimes.SeeFigure 12.Donot primeto restarta warm
engine.
NOTE: Ifyoupushthe primertoo manytimes,excessive f uelwill floodthe
carburetor a ndthe enginewill bedifficult to start.

Standing behindthe mower, s queeze the bladecontrol h andleagainstupper
handle.
Holdingthesetwo handles togetherfirmly,grasprecoilstarterhandleand
pull ropeslowlyuntil resistance i sfelt, thenpull witha rapid,continuous, f ull
armstroke.SeeFigure 12.Keeping afirm griponthe startercordhandle, l et
the roperewindslowly.Repeat u ntil enginecranks. L etthe roperewindeach
time slowly.

Rapidretraction of starter cord(kickback)will pullhandandarm toward
engine faster than you can let go. Brokenbones,fractures,bruisesor
sprainscould result.
ToStop Engine

Release b ladecontrol t o stopthe engineandblade.
UsingasMulcher
Formulching grass, r emove the grass catcheror sidedischarge c hutefrom the
mower.Whenyouremove the grasscatcher f romthe mower,the reardischarge
doorwill close. W henyouremove the side discharge chute,the mulchingcoverwill
close.Foreffectivemulching, d o not cutwetgrass.Ifthe grasshasbeenallowedto
growinexcess offour inches, m ulchingisnot recommended. Use the grasscatcher
to bagclippings instead.
Wait for the bladeto stop completelybefore performing anywork on the
moweror to removethe grasscatcher.
UsingYourLawnMower
Besurelawnisclearof stones, s ticks, w ire, or otherobjectswhichcoulddamage
lawnmoweror engine.Such objectscouldbeaccidently thrownbythe mowerin
anydirectionandcause serious personal injury to theoperatorandothers.
Theoperationof any lawn mowercan resultinforeign objectsbeing
thrown intothe eyes,which can damageyour eyesseverely.Always
wearsafetyglasses whileoperating the mower,or whileperforming any
adjustments or repairson it.
Using GrassCatcher
Youcanusethe grass catcherto collect c lippingswhileyouareoperatingthe
mower.
1.
Attachgrasscatcher f ollowing instructions inthe "Assembly" s ection.Grass
clippingswill automatically collectinbagasyou runmower.Operate mower
untilgrassbagisfull.
2.
Stopenginecompletely byreleasing the bladecontrol.Makesurethatthe
unit has cometo acompletestop.
3.
Lift discharge d oorandpullgrassbagupandawayfrom the mowerto
remove the bag.Dispose o fthe grassclippings andreinstall t he bagwhen
complete.
If you strike a foreign object, stop the engine.Disconnect the sparkplug
wire, thoroughly inspectmowerfor any damage,andrepairdamage
before restarting andoperating. Extensive v ibration of mower during
operationis an indication of damage.Theunit should be promptly
inspectedandrepaired.
