Fit a new spark plug after approx. 100
operating hours or earlier if the
electrodes are badly eroded.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire and burn injury,
use only spark plugs authorized by
STIHL. Always press spark plug boot (2)
snugly onto spark plug terminal (1) of the
proper size. (Note: If terminal has
detachable SAE adapter nut, it must be
attached.) A loose connection between
spark plug boot and ignition wire
connector in the boot may create arcing
that could ignite combustible fumes and
cause a fire.

Replacing a broken starter rope

Take out the screws (1).

Remove the fan housing from the
N
crankcase.
Use a screwdriver or suitable pliers
N
to remove the spring clip (2) from
the starter post.
Carefully remove the rope rotor with
N
washer (3) and pawl (4).
WARNING
The rewind spring may pop out and
uncoil during this operation – take care
to reduce risk of injury.

Replacing the starter rope
Use a screwdriver to pry the rope

out of the starter grip.
Remove the remaining rope from
N
the rotor and starter grip.
Thread the new rope through the
N
starter grip and tie one of the special
knots shown.
Pull the knot back into the grip.
