TROUBLESHOOTING

Engine Will Not Start
Possible Cause
Ignition switch OFF
Fuel valve OFF
Out of fuel
Oil level low
Bad fuel; pump stored without
treating or draining petrol, or
refueled with bad petrol
Spark plug faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped
Spark plug wet with fuel (flooded
engine)
Fuel filter clogged, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
Loss of Power

Throttle not set to FAST
Air filter clogged
Bad fuel; pump stored without

Pump Will Not Pump
Possible Cause
Strainer clogged
Suction hose clamps loose
Suction head is too high
Pump requires priming
Pump still does not pump
Correction
Turn the ignition switch ON (page 6).
Turn the fuel valve ON (page 6).
Refuel (page 11).
Add oil (page 8)
Drain the fuel tank and carburetor
(page 14).
Refuel with fresh petrol (page 11).
Gap or replace the spark plug
(page 10).
Dry and reinstall the spark plug.
Take the pump to an authorized Honda
servicing dealer for repair.
Correction
Move the throttle to the FAST position.
Clean or replace the air filter (page 10).
Drain the fuel tank and carburetor.

Refuel with fresh petrol (page 11).
Take the pump to an authorized Honda
service dealer for repair.
Correction
Clear strainer.
TIghten hose clamps (page 4).
Locate pump at appropriate level
(page 6).
Prime the pump (page 5).
Take the pump to an authorized Honda
servicing dealer for repair.
