4.5 Arrow Manipulated Pointer

Some applications may use an Arrow Manipulated Pointer which is similar to a mouse pointer, except that it is

manipulated via keyboard (Arrows key and Enter key) instead of a separate mouse device (hardware). The Arrow

Manipulated Pointer does not replace the conventional usage of the CBA device, but the Arrow Manipulated Pointer is

a user interface extension to use the device. The primary intention is not to provide an alternative way to use the

applications, but to provide a pointing functionality for applications that need it. Examples of such applications are

web browsers (image maps) and Java applications explicitly requesting pointing events. With some exceptions, the

basic keyboard usage is still available even when the Arrow Manipulated Pointer is selected. Every application has the

option to use the Arrow Manipulated Pointer, but the Arrow Manipulated Pointer is meant primarily for browser

applications. When using the Arrow Manipulated Pointer, not all standard EPOC controls are suitable because the

look-and-feel of these controls is not designed for direct manipulation. Arrow Manipulated Pointer mode can be

activated/deactivated in the Menu or via Shortcut.
