OPERATION

Turn
the
fuel
cock
to
"ON".
2.
Turn
the
main
switch
to
"ON" and
the
engine
stop switch
to
"
(")
".
3.
Shift
transmission
into neutrai.
NOTE:
When
the transmission
is
in
neutrai,
the neutral
indicator
light
should
be
on.
if
the
light
does
not
come
on,
ask a
Yamaha
dealer
to
inspect
it.
4.
Turn on
the
starter
(choke)
and
compieteiy close the
throttle grip.
5.
Start
the
engine by pushing
the
start
switch.
NOTE:
If
the
engine
fails
to
start,
release the
start
switch,
wait
a few
seconds, then
try
again.
Each
attempt should
be as
short
as
possible
to
preserve
the
bat-
tery.
Do
not
crank
the
engine
more
than
10 seconds on any
one
attempt.
6.
After
starting
the engine,
turn
off
the
starter
(choke).
The
starter
operation periods
differ
with
the
ambient
temperature,
so
refer to
the
following notes.
NOTE:
#
The
engine
is
warm when
it
re-
sponds
normally
to
the
throttle
with the
starter
turned
off.
To
avoid the
possibility of
excessive
exhaust
emissions,
never
leave
the
starter
circuit
on
longer than
necessary.
The
length
of
time
the
starter
is
needed depends upon
the
ambient
temperature.
Warm
ambient
temperatures
(above
10°C/50°F)
require
about
7
sec-
onds
of starter
use.
Cold ambient
temperatures (below
10°C/50T)
require
about
35 seconds
with
the
starter
turned
on,
then about
2.5
minutes
with
the
starter
in
the
halfway
position.

For
maximum
engine
life,
always
warm
up
the
engine
before
start-
ing
off.
Never
accelerate
hard
with
a
cold engine.
