Precautions for Products with Modems,
Telecommunications, or Local Area Network Options
In addition to the general precautions described earlier in this
section, be sure to observe the following precautions when
operating telecommunications and network equipment. Failure to
observe these precautions could result in fire, bodily injury, and
damage to the equipment.
I
Do not connect or use a modem or telephone (other than a
cordless type) during a lightning storm. There may be a
remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
I
Never connect or use a modem or telephone in a wet location.
I
Do not plug a modem or telephone cable into the Network
Interface Card (NIC) receptacle.
I
Disconnect the modem cable before opening a product
enclosure, touching or installing internal components, or
touching an uninsulated modem cable or jack.
I
Do not use a telephone line to report a gas leak while you are
in the vicinity of the leak.

Precautions for Products with Laser Devices

In addition to the general precautions described earlier in this
section, be sure to observe the following precautions when
operating a product equipped with a laser device. Failure to
observe these precautions could result in fire, bodily injury, and
damage to the equipment.

Do not operate controls, make adjustments, or perform
procedures to a laser device other than those specified herein
or in the CD-ROM drive installation guide.
I
Allow only Compaq-authorized service technicians to repair
the laser equipment.
I
All Compaq systems equipped with CD-ROM drives comply
with appropriate safety standard including IEC 825. With
specific regard to the laser, the equipment complies with laser
