Purpose: The document is intended for use by end-of-life recyclers or treatment facilities. It provides the basic instructions
for the disassembly of HP products to remove components and materials requiring selective treatment, as defined by EU
directive 2002/96/EC, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
1.0 Items Requiring Selective Treatment
1.1 Items listed below are classified as requiring selective treatment.

External electrical cables and cords
Gas Discharge Lamps
Plastics containing Brominated Flame Retardants
Components and parts containing toner and ink,
including liquids, semi-liquids (gel/paste) and toner
Components and waste containing asbestos
Components, parts and materials containing
refractory ceramic fibers
Components, parts and materials containing
radioactive substances

With a surface greater than 10 sq cm.
Two in the power supply, one graphics card, and two
system board. (Additional cards, including a system
board riser, may be present depending on the
configuration.) (If riser is present, two system boards
are installed.)
All types including standard alkaline and lithium coin
or button style batteries
For example, mercury in lamps, display backlights,
scanner lamps, switches, batteries
Includes background illuminated displays with gas
discharge lamps

  • Page 3 Remove the power supply. Pull out the power supply locking handle marked with the green tab. Use the handle to pull the power supply out of the chassis 10.   • Page 4 11. The following pictures show how to remove a second system board (riser) from an HP z620 Workstation. (Not all HP z620 Workstations have a second system board.) Second System Board (Riser) a) Pinch both green contact points together. b) Lift riser out of chassis.

  • Page 6 Refer to the Items Requiring Selective Treatment table to identify all components to be removed. a. Remove the power supply chassis screws. b.   • Page 7 PCA. (Note that some components may need to be unsoldered if a diagonal cutter does not fit between the component and the PCA.)
