Adjusting the Needle Thread Tension Straight stitch balanced tension The ideal straight stitch has threads locked between two ① layers of fabric, as illustrated (magnified to show detail). If you look at the top and bottom of the seam, notice that the stitches are evenly balanced. - Page 20 Zigzag stitch For an ideal zigzag stitch, the bobbin thread does not show on the right side (top side) of the fabric, and the needle thread shows slightly on the wrong side (bottom side) of the fabric. See the illustrations for the correct appearance. To match this appearance, adjust the needle tension as necessary.
